In one of my tanks I had a group of L59 Pleco’s, some adult L144′s and a male and female Red/Black Pleco. This group of off spring came from that tank, I have no idea who the parents are…..
I found that I was spending time and energy plugging filters in and out for maintenance. I also had to flick 3 different switches to turn the light on or off on all 6 tanks. I needed to save time and to make things safer. Messing with electrics is never a good thing when there is water involved. I decided that a set of remote controlled plug sockets was needed to make my life easier and to make it safer. This way I could turn lights, air pumps and filters on or off at the press of a remote button,...
I currently have 2 4 foot fish tanks and 2 3 foot fish tanks. Where the 3 foot tanks are there is room for 4 foot tanks instead so today I have bought from eBay a 4 foot tank with a stand that holds 2 tanks, 1 above the other. At some point in the future I will buy an additional 4 foot tank, for now I will utilize one of the 3 foot tanks that I currently use. Here is the photo that was used on eBay by the seller. The description was as follows: - 4FT X 1.5FT X 1 FT AQUARIUM WITH METAL STAND INCLUDES CANOPY...
8 days ago my breeding pair of Sunset Paraiba Angel Fish laid some eggs, here we are just over a week later and the brood are now at the stage where their heads seem connected to the breeding site. Ever now and then one or more of the fry fall off the breeding site and are quickly ‘sucked up’ by one of the parents and then gracefully ‘spat back’ where they reattach themselves to the terracotta pot. The tank is looking very dirty, I am hesitant to siphon the tank just now, I don’t want to...
A week ago to the day my breeding pair of Sunset Paraiba Angel Fish started to clean a site to lay some eggs on. During the last week the parents have been caring for the eggs by fanning them and the eggs have now clearly changed to what look like healthy wrigglers. It’s hard to count the wrigglers but I think there are around 50 left. A few days back a Pleco entered the tank and ate some of the eggs. I have been feeding the parents 3 times daily on Large Granular Fish Food from ZM Systems. They...
Today the wrigglers are wriggling more and more and all of the white eggs have now been removed by the parents. But what I have witnessed is some strange behaviour; the female on occasion chases the male away. She nips at the top of his fin but does not seem to harm him. Although the male is much larger than the female he accepts this and moves away. He returns to the eggs soon after and sometimes stays there for a long time. Other times he is slowly guided away by the female, sometimes she nips...
3 days ago my breeding pair of Sunset Paraiba Angel Fish laid a nice bunch of eggs. Since them some have turned white (not too many) and an L144 Pleco has eaten some. The rest seem to be nice and healthy, most are already displaying a very tiny tail protruding from the eggs. Most of the eggs are also now ‘quivering’ which tells me there is life in there somewhere. The parents are keeping themselves very busy fanning the eggs almost constantly. They also seem to be removing the white eggs and...
You can read all about How My Tropical Fish Tanks are Setup Here. All you need to know for this update is that the fish tank that I breed my Sunset Paraiba Angel Fish in is fed by another fish tank that houses amongst other Tropical Fish a group of tiny L144 Pleco’s. Somehow today one of the L144 Pleco’s managed to find it’s way through the pipework connecting the tanks and into the Sunset Paraiba Angel Fish’s main breeding tank. The L144 is only about 3 or 4 cm’s long but I noticed that...
My breeding pair of Sunset Paraiba Angel Fish are laying a huge amount of eggs. Just a day or so after starting to clean an area to lay the eggs on they have started to breed. The tank is looking nice and clean. This morning I spent quite some time siphoning all of the debris from the bottom of the tank. I also cleaned one of the sponge filters in this tank, it has two in total but I never clean them both at the sametime. Both female and male Angel Fish take their turn in gliding upwards close to...
